Thesis Submission

Honors Thesis Format

The final Honors Thesis must be formatted using the Honors Thesis Template. The first and last pages must match what is included in this template. This includes the format of the title, your name signatures, and copyright on the first page; and your name and the date on the last page. You will also need an abstract, and the table of contents. Note the pagination - the abstract has Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, v, etc.), and Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.) start on the first page after your table of contents. Outside of these requirements, the format of your thesis is determined by your major and by your faculty mentor.

Thesis Approval and Signatures

A thesis is “approved” when it has been read and the title page signed by the cognizant Faculty Thesis Mentor, Departmental Honors Liaison, the Department Chair.

Important:

  • Start the signature process early—allow at least two weeks to ensure all approvals are completed in time.
  • The mentor, DHL, and chair may sign the front page of your thesis electronically or by hand.
  • If one person serves in multiple roles, they should sign each applicable section.
  • The Dean of the Honors College signs the thesis after it has been submitted to the Honors College.

Library Permission and Public Access

The USpace Library Permission Form allows the Marriott Library to make your thesis publicly accessible beyond the university.

Access Options

  • If you do not complete the form, your thesis will only be available on campus or to those with university login credentials.
  • If you do complete the form, your thesis will be accessible to the general public.

Embargo Option (Delaying Publication)

You may choose to delay public access to your thesis by selecting an "embargo until" date on the form. This option is useful if:

  • You plan to publish your thesis or parts of your research.
  • You want to prevent journals from rejecting your work due to prior public availability.

This embargo period ensures that your research remains private for a set time before being released to the public domain.

Thesis Submission Deadlines

The approved thesis must be submitted to the Honors College by the following deadlines:

• For Spring or Fall graduation, Reading Day
• For Summer graduation, the last day of classes

As long as your thesis is submitted by the deadline, you should not worry about any emails from the registrar in relation to your thesis - it will be marked as approved once it is cleared by the Honors Thesis team.

Marriott Library Thesis Award

Each academic year, the Marriott Library selects two Honors Theses for recognition at Spring graduation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Submit your final, signed thesis by April 1, 2026.
  • Have your Faculty Mentor or Departmental Honors Liaison submit a letter of recommendation.
