Leadership Opportunities

Honors leadership positions—like Peer Mentors and Learning Community Assistants—offer paid, hands-on opportunities to develop communication, mentorship, and project management skills that set you apart after graduation.

Peer Mentors
Become a Peer Mentor and support incoming Honors students as they begin their journey. Share your insights, guide meaningful conversations, and strengthen the Honors experience for both you and your peers.
Outbound and Specialized Peer Mentors
Outbound and Specialized Peer Mentors work with specific Honors cohorts, such as Asia Campus students or those joining Honors mid-year through HONOR 1030. These roles offer focused mentorship and leadership opportunities within specialized programs.
Learning Community Assistants
As a Learning Community Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Honors programs through administrative, communication, and project management work—developing professional skills that translate directly to your future career.

Peer Mentors

Peer mentors are current Honors students in their second year of college or beyond who work with first-year students in the “Ideas that Matter” first-year seminar. Peer mentors help all first-year Honors students to lay a foundation for a successful Honors degree at the University of Utah. This includes sharing their own experiences as first-year students, listening to and engaging with the students’ ideas, and modeling the possibilities of the Honors College’s transformative liberal arts & sciences education. Honors students with at least one year of coursework remaining are eligible to apply to the program.
