Departmental Thesis Requirements
Article-based theses.
Traditional long-format theses.
Standard written document produced using the graduate school thesis formats.
Each academic department submits the specific requirements that must be met for a successful Honors thesis in its respective major. If you are seeking more information on your department’s thesis requirements, please contact your Departmental Honors Liaison and/or the Honors Thesis Team in the Honors College.
Faculty Thesis Mentors
Generally speaking, tenure-track faculty pursuing research advise research thesis students whereas career-line faculty serving as instructors for clinic or capstone courses serve as advisors for clinic or capstone project thesis students. If a faculty mentor leaves the university, the Departmental Honors Liaison guarantees the successful conclusion of the thesis work.
Joint Thesis
The determination of allowing a student to produce a joint thesis would be made on a case by case basis.
How does the Honors Thesis relate to other aspects of the major, like a Capstone Project?
The basic idea is that students in EE or CE have just used their senior projects as the basis for their thesis, and they wrote a stand-alone version describing their work for Honors if they did a team project. Most students, though, will do individual research projects.
