- Students who were admitted to the Honors College for their first semester will complete the two sequential first-year Honors courses:

Yes, students receive a grade for their First-Year Learning Community course that is included on their transcript. Classes follow the University of Utah grading scale.

- The First-Year Learning Community courses fulfill the requirements for the First Experience (FE) attribute, which is part of the university's commitment to supporting the success of first-year students in their transition to college life.
- Courses with the FE attribute are designed to help students:
- Connect with peers, faculty, and the campus community.
- Empower themselves with academic skills, confidence, and self-awareness.
- Impact their future by linking education to personal goals, career aspirations, and societal contributions.

- Around 30 sections are offered annually. Sections are offered Monday - Friday from early morning to evening for varying class schedules.
- One section contains an average of 15-20 students, with a maximum of 24 students per section.

- The first-year Honors Asia Campus cohort is a unique section of HONOR 1010 and HONOR 1020. The cohort attends the main campus in Salt Lake City in fall and the U Asia Campus in Songdo, South Korea in spring. Students can complete general education requirements, select major coursework, and other honors course options while in Korea including Intellectual Traditions, Honors Seminars, and Honors Electives.

- Students are expected to make every reasonable effort to remain with the same section between fall and spring semesters. The continuity of community within the year-long cohort allows sections of HONOR 1010 and 1020 to establish depth in discussion and connection.
- However, scheduling conflicts will occur. We work with students to identify scheduling solutions on a case-by-case basis.

No, students admitted to the Honors College for the fall or spring of their first year must enroll in the appropriate course to fulfill the First-Year Learning Community requirement.

- The Learning Community requirements for transfer students are managed on a case-by-case basis.
- Transfer students should contact the Learning Community team to discuss their situation by emailing [email protected].

- Because the First-Year Learning Community is curriculum-based and credit-bearing, students are expected to fulfill the First-Year Learning Community requirement as it exists.
- The Learning Community requirements for subsequent years may then be expedited or extended, depending on the year and timeline.
