Honors College Kicks Off the Year with Student Welcome Event

The Honors College is inviting new and returning students to start the semester connected, one conversation at a time. The Honors Student Welcome Event takes place Thursday, September 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the walkway between Kahlert Village and the Marriott Honors Community (MHC) and the green space just north of the MHC. The event is free, casual, and open to drop in at any point during the lunch window — no RSVP required for students.

A Chance to Connect

“The Honors Student Welcome Event is really about bringing our community together at the start of the year,” says event organizer Karleton Munn. “We want students to feel like they belong, make connections with people across Honors and the university, and discover the resources, supports, and opportunities available to them.”

Lunch, Games, and Campus Partner Row

Students can grab lunch from Jurassic Tacos, join in on yard games, and make their way down Campus Partner Row, where representatives from campus offices like the Dean of Students Office, the Marriott Library, Mental Health First Responders, the Office of Undergraduate Research, Transfer Student Success, and ASUU Campus Events Board will be on hand to share what they offer. Honors student clubs and organizations — including the Honors Integrated Minors, the Honors Student Advisory Committee (H-SAC), Asia Campus, Learning Communities, and Thesis/DHL resources — will also have tables set up to welcome new members.

Meet Honors Faculty, Staff, and Alumni

Honors faculty and staff will be circulating throughout the event, along with staff tables highlighting opportunities within the Honors College itself, including study abroad and scholarships. Students interested in leadership can also learn about becoming a Learning Community Assistant, a role that helps shape the Honors experience for incoming students. And for those looking for a little real-world perspective, Honors alumni will be on-site to answer questions and share advice on everything from coursework to careers.
