Departmental Thesis Requirements

CMP encourages students to pursue theses that are policy-based professional projects, article-based research, or traditional long-format products. Other formats are possible, but require pre-approval by the DHL.

Each academic department submits the specific requirements that must be met for a successful Honors thesis in its respective major. If you are seeking more information on your department’s thesis requirements, please contact your Departmental Honors Liaison and/or the Honors Thesis Team in the Honors College.

Faculty Thesis Mentors

Any faculty teaching in CMP can serve as mentor. Mentorship relationships can continue after the mentor leaves the University.

Collaborative Theses

Collaborative theses are permitted, even encouraged. In such cases, each collaborator needs to submit an author contribution statement.

Joint Thesis

Joint theses are permitted. In such cases, we encourage students to select a topic that connects to all majors.

How does the Honors Thesis relate to other aspects of the major, like a Capstone Project?

Students should consider using workshop projects or internship-based work as the basis for their thesis.

Additional information for students

We encourage students to participate in a Praxis Lab.
