Departmental Thesis Requirements

Each academic department submits the specific requirements that must be met for a successful Honors thesis in its respective major. If you are seeking more information on your department’s thesis requirements, please contact your Departmental Honors Liaison and/or the Honors Thesis Team in the Honors College.

Faculty Thesis Mentors

All theses must be conducted under the direction of a faculty advisor who acts as mentor of the project. All tenure-line and career-line faculty may serve as advisors; adjunct faculty may also serve, subject to approval by the Department Chair. It is the responsibility of individual Honors students to seek out and work with a faculty advisor. If a difficulty arises in securing a faculty advisor, please contact the department's Honors liaison for help, currently tim.slover@utah.edu.

Collaborative Theses

Collaborative projects undertaken by more than one Department of Theatre Honors students are permissible. However, each Honors student on the collaborative team must write a separate written thesis and will be evaluated separately

Joint Thesis

Joint projects undertaken by a Department of Theatre Honors student are permissible.

How does the Honors Thesis relate to other aspects of the major, like a Capstone Project?

Honors theses may, but do not have to be, associated with a capstone project of one of the areas of the Department of Theatre.
