Thesis format
Traditional long-format theses.
Who is eligible to be a faculty thesis mentor?
Career-line faculty or tenure-line faculty may act as Thesis Mentor. If a mentor leaves the University before thesis completion, another faculty member could volunteer to act as mentor. If no volunteer is found, the Honors Liaison or Director of Undergraduate studies for the department will act as Thesis Mentor.
Are collaborative theses permitted?
A collaborative thesis is one where an Honors student works with one or more collaborators on the thesis.
Honors students may collaborate with other students on the laboratory or simulation work needed to complete their thesis (e.g. in a capstone project or on a joint project in a faculty's research laboratory). However, each honors student must author their own separate honors thesis. The thesis should clearly indicate which portions of the project were executed by the honor's student.
Are joint theses permitted?
A joint thesis is a single thesis that satisfies the requirements of multiple majors.
Joint theses are permitted with the agreement of all involved departments.
How does the Honors Thesis relate to other aspects for the major?
Student may use the department's capstone series (CH EN 4706 & 4707), Undergraduate Research (CH EN 4950), or Cooperative Education Work Period (CH EN 4978) to support the work needed to accomplish an honors thesis.
Major-specific Thesis Proposal Process
The Honors College requires Thesis Proposal/Registration by the end of the third year. If your major has a separate additional Thesis Proposal Process, it is detailed here.
