Departmental Thesis Requirements

The honors thesis should be a formal written report of the sort accepted for the final report in our senior capstone course (CH EN 4707). It should have a proper abstract, introduction, description of theory, description of methods and materials, results and discussion, and conclusions and recommendations. Alternatively, with the support of their thesis advisor, a student may author a paper in a format suitable to be submitted to a specific peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Each academic department submits the specific requirements that must be met for a successful Honors thesis in its respective major. If you are seeking more information on your department’s thesis requirements, please contact your Departmental Honors Liaison and/or the Honors Thesis Team in the Honors College.

Faculty Thesis Mentors

All faculty, tenure-line and career-line, within the Price College of Engineering and the College of Science are acceptable honors thesis mentors for students in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Collaborative Theses

Collaborative theses are permitted. Collaborators much submit a separate individual thesis, in their own words.

Joint Thesis

A joint thesis is permitted with the support of all involved thesis advisors.

How does the Honors Thesis relate to other aspects of the major, like a Capstone Project?

An honors thesis may be conducted as part of the senior capstone series (CH EN 4706 and 4707) or as part of undergraduate research (CH EN 4980).
