Air Quality, Health and Society
In this Praxis Lab, students tackled the pressing issue of air quality by exploring the science, economics, and policies that impact the air we breathe. Taught by an atmospheric scientist and a writer/activist, the course examined how air pollution affects everyone—regardless of background—and the health, environmental, aesthetic, and economic consequences it brings.
Students began by studying the sources and behavior of air pollutants, from how they enter and transform in the atmosphere to their eventual removal. Guest lecturers and experts on health, environmental, and economic impacts contributed valuable insights, broadening students’ understanding of the issue. The course also explored the roles of energy policy, urban planning, politics, and lifestyle choices in shaping air quality.
In the second semester, students applied their knowledge by designing and executing a class project aimed at making a meaningful impact on the community.
