Aging Well in Utah
As the world’s population ages, societies must adapt to ensure inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability for all generations. This Praxis Lab examined the impact of an aging population, with a focus on Utah—one of the youngest states in the nation but rapidly growing in its 65+ demographic.
Using the Age-Friendly Movement as a framework, students explored key issues such as healthy aging, healthcare delivery, workforce sustainability, community planning, and the effects of ageism. Through lectures, readings, and direct engagement with older adults and aging services, participants analyzed how social determinants of health and health policies shape the experience of aging in Utah. Special emphasis was placed on the 4M’s of age-friendly health systems—mobility, mentation, medications, and what matters most.
