The L. Jackson Newell Liberal Arts and Sciences Lecture Series

with Dr. Jeffrey Moore

The Language of Stone Lecture

Join the Honors College in celebrating this year’s L. Jackson Newell fellow, Dr. Jeffrey Moore, assistant professor of Geology & Geophysics at the University of Utah.

Dr. Moore will join Honors College Dean Sylvia Torti to present a short film based on his research monitoring the structural health of the rock arches and towers in Southern Utah through the ambient vibrations emitted from these spectacular geologic sculptures. A brief Q&A will follow. Dr. Moore’s work has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, the National Science Foundation, and BBC News.

The Honors College names an L. Jackson Newell Fellow in the Liberal Arts and Sciences each year. Fellows must display combined expertise in their scholarly area with an appreciation for transdisciplinary work across the liberal arts and sciences and a capacity of conveying that expertise to a public audience in a compelling and dynamic way.
